The daily text of today is not in here. It’s actually a letter to myself to be opened on January 11th, 2021.
I’ve done one in school years and years ago (my daughter actually did the same quite recently) but after that, I got back to this lovely little piece of a routine last year. Writing a letter to yourself is a great way to see the progress and growth that inevitably happens over time.
It’s a tiny time capsule you can open, hello from the past you. Wormhole back to the moment that doesn’t exist anymore anywhere else than your memory.
You can write about whatever you want to. Describe your feelings at the moments, tell about what’s happening or what do you expect to happen next. About the weather, the home you live in, about your job, your anxiety, your achievements. About what are your desires and dreams, where do you hope you to be when you receive it and open it to read.
Today I wrote myself a letter that is to be opened on January 11th, 2021. After writing it I sealed it in the black envelope and opened the one I wrote on January 3rd, 2019. It was overwhelmingly emotional to read it, to travel back to those feelings and thoughts. So many things happen in a year. It almost feels like I’m completely a different person than the one who wrote the former letter and I bet I’ll feel the same when opening the recent one too.
I had included a P.S. too which suggested to see a particular Instagram story from that very day. Such a lovely idea, my past self seemed to be quite a person. 😉
In the recent issue of Flow Magazine was a lovely article about American travel writer Kassondra Cloos who writes letters to herself when traveling.
“Instead of writing for my far-off future self, I’m writing for the self I’ll become in just couple of weeks or months.”
I think I might try that one next. One thing I wrote in the letter today was the dream to travel more this year so maybe I will receive more letters too.
P.S. Let me know if you wrote a letter to yourself too!
P.S.S Text of the day is part of my writing challenge this year. I’m committed to creating a text per day every single day of 2020. Most of the texts will be published, partly in here and partly on my Patreon page. If you are craving more, check out the patreon.com/aino and jump in!
As I’m an entrepreneur with several companies and brands and I work in visual and creativity field, it’s sometimes hard to find the time and the mindset to do anything visual or artistic just for fun. I have found few ways to trick my mind to let go and just create.
It’s hard to admit but I’m one of those moms who work too much and say way too often that ‘let’s think about it later’. After this whole new life with even more on my plate at the same time, I find it even harder to be present and have enough time for everything. So …
