I’ve spent so many hours on social media both for fun and for work. There have also been those moments when I felt like trapped inside my phone trying to manage several accounts 24/7 without a proper plan or efficient workflow.
That’s how Social Media Mondays got started. To make it more efficient, I started to do the major part of social media management on Mondays and that’s where this article series also came out. I wanted to document my process and make notes to myself and then I realised I could share the notes and the process with you too while I’m doing the actual work.
So dive in to Social Media Mondays and the first post of this new ongoing article series.
Social media management
Social media management has been a big part of my work for years. I joined Instagram for the first time in 2011 and in Facebook in 2007. Little I knew about how big part of my days both of those would become. Within the social media channels I started my first blog also in 2007. Nowadays we have much more channels and accounts and managing those I’ve learned so much throughout the years.
In the craziest moments there have been over 10 Instagram accounts and even more Facebook pages, groups, events and all the websites, blogs and web stores above that at the same time. Nowadays I manage a bit less channels but I’ll dive more into that on becoming articles and will also write about changing the names of channels, rebranding the content and emerging the channels together.
Holistic view on social media
I still see and use all of these channels and medias intertwined together and believe in holistic view of balancing all the different methods, channels and mediums and not putting the eggs in only one basket. So even Instagram and Facebook are my main tools, I also put a lot of effort in other things like SEO of the websites, keeping in touch with our retailers, being social in general, sending newsletters, meeting customers in person on events and of course, designing a consistent visual universe around every brand I work with.
How do I find the date I joined on Facebook and Instagram?
To check your dates on Instagram, go to Settings > Account > About your account and there you can find the date you signed in and other information about your account.
On Facebook you can find your earliest month by scrolling to the bottom of your feed or if you’re like me and you’ve published quite a few posts, just go to your Activity Log > Filter > Select ‘Events’ and click the earliest year.
And don’t forget to share your dates on comments below too! I’m curious!
Let’s create something together
What I love in social media is the fast pace of it which allows you easily test things out. What I also love is the social part of it. When its best, social media is a great tool to be, well, social but also engage, meet and create something together.
One of my favourite parts of my own social media journey is the communal product development method I’ve been using for several years now. That’s one example on how great social media can be and one of the most exciting parts of it to me.
Lot of my own products have been developed communally and yes, it makes the process also harder and more complex but the end results and the engagement rates are magnificent. This topic will definitely be one of the articles on Social Media Mondays too later on.
Done is better than perfect
But even more important than that is starting. We are often too afraid to try out new things. We hesitate, get analysis paralysis and lose many opportunities simply because we procrastinate. Especially with social media done is definitely better than perfect as it flows forward so fast. Start, try, see what happens and tweak based on the reactions and try again. Stop being afraid and just start. You’ll never know what could happen if you don’t try.
If you have started already, try something new this week. New kind of tone of voice, longer text, shorter text, Stories, video, giveaway, whatever it is, try it out. Remember, done is way better than perfect.
This article is far away from perfect but it’s done. I was so excited of the other topics already that writing this first one felt a bit boring. I try to walk the walk and not only talk the talk so here it is. The first part of this article series. Done is better than perfect.

Instagram stories have taken over if not the whole world, a major chunk of Instagram users and the time used with the application. Photos, videos, memes and yes, all those awesome stickers to add! The temptation to do your own ones if you’re into GIF making is enormous. So this Social Media Monday is all …
Managing multiple businesses means that you need exactly the right tools of the trade too to keep everything in control. Throughout the years I’ve tried several different software (and hardware) and by trial and error finally found the right ones which work perfectly for me. I’ve also found many that don’t fit my personal (or …
I’m trying lot of new things all the time for both client work and my personal projects so I thought it might be helpful to share some tech tips with you too as I go along. This one is about converting video to audio format and that was even easier I could imagine!
I very aware that the text content is as important than the imagery in social media but for one reason or another, I tend to approach creating content from the imagery point of view. I haven’t even really thought about it that much, it just comes naturally. Image first and then the text. Now I’m …
