What’s up? WHAZZAAP? I know it’s still only February but this year feels already so fulfilling, full and, well, long.
At the moment I’m sitting at our office, listening to a song called Alive from Adelitas Way and drinking tea. If you’ve been with me for a long time already, you can guess that something is a bit off. Not because of the song but with the drink that’s not coffee.
After the super hectic start of this year, I finally reached the limit where my body kindly told me that it’s time to slow down. Yes, I got flu or what’s even more frustrating, it’s actually a half-flu when you’re not quite okay but not quite sick enough to rest properly either. So tea it is and some time to sit down and reflect all these feelings.
To be honest, even the year has kicked off at full speed and with awesome projects, it has been partly very frustrating and exhausting too and I feel a bit drained after all this. It’s like you’ve used all your magic and there’s nothing left of you to give to anyone. (And I can’t even tell you what I’ve been up to yet as I’m bound by strict NDAs.)
You can always be scared later.
I’ve always believed in taking action. When things feel right, just go, leap, jump, go with the flow. You can always be scared later. This attitude has truly shown it’s power this year and I feel that I’ve done more in two months than I did the whole last year.
That’s also the reason why some people, in general, seem to get more done than others. They simply just take action. The world is full of good intentions and great ideas but the action is the key to make it happen for real. The downside of it is that no one can be flying all the time. You need some rest too and for me, that time is now.
Slowing down
When that kind of feeling (or flu) hits, I try to intentionally slow down, carve out some time to think, ground and reflect. When everything seems to happen at once, the first thing that gets cut out is the thinking part. You just run and run and run in autopilot and the days are starting to feel just one big blur of everything.
After a while, you need a mental break anyway. It can be a long bath or it can be getting back to forgotten morning pages (I did both!). Whatever gets you back on track and makes you feel like you again. (Maybe some proper sleep too. 😉 )
Now I will make some more tea and finish these few things I absolutely have to for today and then I will take some time off. Even if it’s just one normal night at home with a good book and some chocolate. For the last days of this week, I’ve cleared my calendar and have just two appointments and some smaller tasks to finish. And free, like completely, totally, absolutely FREE weekend! Yay!
What’s up with you? Are you in the action mode or in need of rest or slowing down too? Make my day and share your thoughts!
I used to hate that time of the month. The whole world seemed to crash down on me and the pain was horrible. Both physically and mentally. But this time I’m prepared!

P.S. My book list of this year can be found here, at least insomnia has given me some time to read. 😉
